The useful bit
These are useful estimates rather than guaranteed times. Check live travel before you leave.
The shortcut is quicker than the route most mapping apps suggest, but it is not obvious the first time. Ask for directions before you set off and allow longer with heavy luggage. Gatwick railway station is at South Terminal; the free shuttle runs between South and North.
The nearer station entrance maps at around 14 minutes, although people who know the shortcut often do it in about 10. Southern and Thameslink trains stop here, and Gatwick Airport is one stop away.

↗From Horley station
These are routes that work well from Horley. Check the return trains before you go, especially on Sundays.
Arrive hungry. Eat at Borough Market, then walk west past Shakespeare’s Globe and Tate Modern. Go the other way for Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
From Victoria, walk to Buckingham Palace and through St James’s Park. Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the river are all within the same walk.
The British Library is beside St Pancras. From there, continue through Bloomsbury to the British Museum and on towards Seven Dials or Covent Garden.
The Royal Pavilion is gloriously over the top, and The Lanes are made for getting pleasantly lost. Keep walking downhill and the sea eventually appears.
The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are next to one another at Trafalgar Square. Both are large enough to fill a day, or you can add a walk through the West End.
